The pay and pay ranges shown in this survey are based on a limited sample of data from non-profit organizations. The results should be used with care and with the understanding that they are statistical averages based on overall pay levels.

There were 41 organizations that participated in the survey, including ONESTEP members, other not-for-profit organizations, government agencies and private sector organizations. Usable data was submitted for a total of 211 job titles (some with multiple incumbents within a role in an organization) that were matched to the 12 target job descriptions in the survey.

The geographical participation was as follows, based on the actual addresses of participant organizations.

In addition to the survey data, 6 other sources (on-line and/or purchased) were researched and analyzed to obtain comparable and competitive pay information for as many of the target jobs for which they had data.

The information for government and private organizations is based on the survey as well as on researched data. Many of this group do not have job titles that match the target jobs. Nonetheless, the data can be helpful to check your organization’s own position in the ranges for jobs held in not-for-profit agencies, in comparators within government organizations and in competitors in the private sector.

When comparing pay ranges, it is also important to consider the value of benefits and non-monetary items and services offered by your organization and by the comparator and competitor groups. For example, not-for-profit organizations typically offer more paid vacation and personal days off than in the private sector. Each day has a value.
